| Wherever you were and whatever you were doing, you find yourself on the road with nothing but the clothes on your back and maybe a cherished belonging or two. A hotel is the only sign of civilization for as far as you can wander. But you will come to the door. There are no other options. And once you check in, you can never leave.
That is not to say there's nowhere to go. Now and then the hotel opens doors onto other worlds, where you can venture out in search of epic adventures or simply supplies to make your stay more comfortable. And you’ll probably want to. Can't you feel the madness closing in?
Welcome to the Madonna Inn. You've just embarked on a long, strange trip indeed.
The Madonna Inn is a hotel of one-hundred ten themed rooms and (unstaffed) resort amenities, including a terrace pool, spa, stables, restaurant, cafe, and guest shop. This peculiar place has a skeleton crew of an innkeeper, a housekeeper, a groundskeeper, a maintenance man, and a cook who more or less only makes chicken. They will not interact with you outside of their job function, and may not even be people at all. As for the rest of what needs to be done around the hotel, it is up to you and the other guests to keep this place running. It’s home for the foreseeable future.
When you arrive, you will be assigned to one of the actual hotel rooms, on a first come, first served basis. Roommates and shared rooms by player agreement only. Once monthly, one of the rooms opens into a new, exciting, unfamiliar and probably life-threatening world. The hotel has resources for minimal sustenance, but everything else must be acquired from these worlds. You can wander as far into these worlds as you will, but you will always be returned to the hotel before the portal closes. No one ever remains behind.
